At the young age of 9 I knew I was destined to be owned by a Bull
Terrier. It was then that I saw my first Bully, a white with a black
eye patch, being walked in my neighborhood. I exclaimed to my mother
as we drove by, "Look! That man is walking a cow!" Although I didn't
know what breed of dog it was until years later, it was love at
first sight. I spent my senior year in college between writing my
thesis and driving up and down the East Coast meeting breeders and
going to dog shows.

It took me the whole year to find a breeder that had a dog that was right for me. In 1991 I had the good fortune to meet Marion Dussault who had a brindle and white puppy available. Piggy's Diamond In The Rough, or "Samson" as he was known by his friends, became my constant companion. He blossomed into a true ambassador for the breed. He loved all dogs, and even some cats, played tirelessly with his ball, thrilled at agility and tolerated never ending obedience classes. Sadly he passed away in May of 2006, just a week before his 15th birthday. Although others have followed in his footsteps, he will forever hold a special place in my heart. |
